Before even explaining how to change alarm ringtone on iPhone , I would like to make you a recommendation that I think is more than necessary. As already mentioned in the introductory lines of this tutorial, the most recent versions of iOS (but also of iPadOS) allow you to use personal songs downloaded in MP3 format and downloaded from the Internet as an alarm clock, as long as they are present. in your iTunes / Music library.
In this regard, I would like to tell you right away that downloading and illegally using music protected by copyright is a criminal offense. If this aspect is clear to you, I would say that the time has come to get down to business and to find out, in detail, how to change the iPhone alarm ringtone quickly and easily.
How to change alarm ringtone on iPhone
By default, iPhone provides a large number of ringtones, present “standard” in the operating system; if necessary, however, you can buy new ones on the iTunes Store , within a couple of taps.
To start, open the iOS Clock app, by tapping its resident icon on the Home screen, then tap the Alarm button at the bottom and, if you have not yet created a new alarm, press the (+ ) placed at the top to do so. If, on the other hand, it is your intention to change the sound of an existing alarm, touch the Edit item at the top and touch the > button located next to the alarm to be modified.
Now, if necessary, set the details of the alarm ( time , repetition , label and delay ) by acting on the various items proposed, tap on the Sound item and, to select a ringtone from those available, select it from the Ringtones box .
If, on the other hand, you want to download a ringtone from the iTunes Store, locate the Store box and tap the Ringtones item on the iTunes Store ; once this is done, find the song you prefer among those proposed and, to listen to the preview, tap on its title ; to view all the sounds belonging to a certain category (eg. Ringtones in the foreground ), touch the See all item located in correspondence with it.
To buy a ringtone, after finding it, tap the button that indicates its price (located to the right of the title), touch the Finish button (in order to download it) and complete the transaction, authenticating with Face ID , Touch ID or your Apple ID password . If you have not yet set up a payment method on your account, you will be offered a wizard to do so.
Once the transaction is complete, you can find the purchased ringtone in the Store section , resident in the alarm selection screen: if it is not there, tap the Download all purchased ringtones button to download it to the device memory.
In any case, once you have chosen the alarm that suits you best, tap on the Back item to return to the alarm setting screen, and confirm the changes made by tapping on the Save item (top right). Easy, right?
How to use a personal passage
If, on the other hand, you prefer to use a custom song as an alarm clock, be it an MP3 from your computer or a song from Apple Music , you need to make sure that this is present in the iPhone music library .
Otherwise, if you are interested in using an MP3 that resides on your computer, you must first load it on the “iPhone by” using iTunes , on Windows or macOS 10.14 and earlier, or the Music application , on macOS 10.15 and later.
So, if you use a PC with a Windows operating system and you do not yet have iTunes , you can cope with this by following the instructions I gave you in my program installation guide ; if, on the other hand, you are using a Mac, you do not have to make any download, as the necessary is already present “as standard” on the computer.
To get started, connect your iPhone to your computer using the Lightning cable , open the iTunes program or the Music application and, if this is your first time connecting devices, allow them to exchange data. To do this, first click on the Continue button that appears in the iTunes / Music window, tap the Authorize button that should be displayed on the phone display and enter the unlock code on the latter, when prompted.
Once authenticated, add the song to be used as a ringtone to the iTunes / Music library, if it is not already present: to do so, go to the File menu of the program and select the Add file to library … / Import item . Finally, proceed to synchronize the music library between the phone and the computer, following the instructions I gave you in this tutorial : following the procedure, the contents of the iTunes / Music library on the computer will be transferred to the iPhone (and related songs can be used as a ringtone).
If you have an Apple Music subscription , you can add a file to your personal library very easily: to start, start the Music app on the iPhone, tap the Search button located at the bottom right and type in the appropriate text box, the title and / or the author of the song of your interest. Next, hit the Apple Music button and hit Enter , so your search results are displayed.
To add the song to the music library, tap the (+) button next to its title and, if requested, confirm that you want to synchronize the library between the various devices paired with the same Apple ID. Subsequently, download the song on the “iPhone by” and then make it available in offline mode, by tapping on the cloud symbol with the down arrow .
Finally, if you do not have an Apple Music subscription, you can also purchase the song you prefer directly from the iTunes Store : start this app, go to the Music section and, once you have identified the song of your interest, do tap on the button that indicates the price , to buy it.
After saving the sound to be used in the iPhone memory, you just have to start the Clock app, reach the Alarm tab and proceed with creating a new alarm by tapping the (+) button ; to change the ringtone of an existing alarm, tap on the Edit item and then on the > symbol which corresponds to the alarm to be modified.
After setting the necessary parameters, tap on the Sound item and, to select a song from the music library, tap the Choose a song option, located in the Songs section . Finally, select one of the available categories (eg Songs ) and, once you have identified the sound of your interest, tap on its title to select it.
Alternatively, if you want to add more songs to the list of sounds that can be used as alarms, tap the (+) button next to their respective titles. To return to the alarm tone selection screen, touch the items and Cancel .
